Medical alert buying checklist

Before you buy.

• Will this exact device work at my address and in the places I visit?Ask about the network, an in-home range test and any travel limits.
• What is the complete first-year cost, including tax?Include activation, equipment, shipping, fall detection and other monthly add-ons.
• How should it be worn, charged and tested?Include shower use, backup power, charging time and safe routine testing.
• Who answers an alert, and what happens if I cannot speak?Ask about language support, contacts, emergency dispatch and false-alarm cancellation.
• Can I cancel at any time, and what would I owe?Get the term, notice period, return instructions and prepaid refund policy in writing.
• What happens after the introductory price or first term?Ask about renewal rates, automatic billing and how price changes are communicated.
• Do I have a copy of the final quote and service agreement?Keep the exact device/plan name, promises, fees and contact details together.

Include the person who will use it.

Discuss what they want from the device and what would make it easy to use day to day. Choose the wearing style and response contacts together. Get their permission before sharing personal or health details with a provider.

When it arrives.

Follow the provider’s setup instructions. Check the connection, complete the recommended range or call test, and confirm the response contacts. Keep support and cancellation instructions somewhere you can find them.

Use the provider’s specified testing routine. Never call emergency services simply to test the device unless specifically instructed by the appropriate service.
